WORKSHOP IN LONDON

Nikos Nikolopoulos and Damian Fennell have worked together closely for many years, creating some of the most iconic images in Cityscape Digital’s portfolio. In this highly rated Creative Lighting London Workshop, they come together to share with you the fundamentals of their revolutionary approach. Over a 2 day interactive workshop you and your peers will discover and engage in an inspirational session that will expose your inner artist. Built around discovery, insight and expression you will be empowered by techniques from a broad range of media, translated into practical artistic process and supported by a modest technical insight into Corona Renderer. This all happens where it all began, Cityscape Digital's Shoreditch Studio.

topics

  • The Artistic Process
Being an artist isn't easy, keep at it. Nikos shares his daily process and explain why real world inspiration is so much better than technical knowledge.

  • Creative Lighting Philosophy
Creative Lighting is a software-agnostic philosophy whose principles can be applied in all scenarios: day, night, inside and outside, just like in film and painting. Nikos shares how the greats of cinematography have inspired the Creative Lighting concept, and how he brought cinematic lighting techniques into an entirely different world - the virtual world.

  • Introduction to Corona Renderer
Corona Renderer is one of the most powerful rendering engines in the market. Nikos shares his unique creative workflow and lighting techniques for fast and happy rendering. Combine the Creative Lighting philosophy with the power of LightMix to create visual poetry in your raw render.

  • The Imagemaking Process
Making commercial imagery is the result, whether we like it or not, of a partnership between Artist and Client (or Designer in the case of the in-house artist). Damian goes deep into how to navigate this relationship to achieve great visuals, in a session blending artistic process and creative direction skills.

  • The Anatomy of an Image
Analysis of the fundamental building blocks of a strong visual: composition, tone, color, focal hierarchy.

DAMIAN FENNELL

Ten years ago, Damian Fennell put his fine art and sculpture career on hold to join Cityscape Digital,
a leading architectural visualisation house. He and Nikos worked closely together during
Nikos’ five years at Cityscape, and Creative Lighting was born out of their partnership.

THE WORKSHOP WAS AN INSPIRING REMINDER OF WHAT WE SHOULD BE MORE FOCUSED ON AS ARTISTS. NIKOS AND DAMIAN DELVE BACK TO OFTEN FORGOTTEN FIRST PRINCIPLES OF IMAGE CREATION. DELIVERED WITH EXCELLENT TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE OF HOW TO BEST IMPLEMENT THE THEORY IN DAY TO DAY PRACTICE OF VISUALISATION, SUPPORTED BY A WIDE ARRAY OF SOURCE INSPIRATION FROM FILM, PHOTOGRAPHY
AND PAINTING. THE COURSE WAS A MUCH NEEDED, FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE CRAFT.
